Michael Glenn Chambers
November 27, 1946 - November 30, 2022

Michael Glenn Chambers, formerly of Italy, Texas, passed away on November 30, 2022. He was born November 27, 1946 to Alton Clayton Chambers and Fannie Belle Meadows. He had one brother, Marshall Lee Chambers. Mike graduated from Italy High School in 1965 where he played basketball and football. He was a member of the FFA. While growing up, Mike attended the First Baptist Church in Italy, where he later became a Deacon.

In 1972, Mike joined the Dallas Fire Department. He served faithfully for 36 years, retiring in 2008. For some of those years, he served as a paramedic. He also served as a driver engineer, maneuvering the streets of Dallas with confidence and skill. He served most of his years at Station 3 and retired while serving at Station 29. He was quite popular in the firehouse for his cooking skills. During his tenure at the Dallas Fire Department, he touched the lives of many. He never bragged of lives saved or spoke of the bravery it most certainly took to tackle the situations encountered on a daily basis. He just quietly and humbly did the job that most people would never dare attempt. He always had his brothers' backs and trusted that they had his.

Mike was a devoted and loving son, brother, and father. His favorite role was beloved PaPaw to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of his biggest smiles were at family gatherings where everyone looked forward to his "famous" chicken enchiladas. He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. He attended their games and school functions and absolutely beamed with pride as he watched. He always cheered them up when they were down, encouraged them, took the time to listen, and did the little things (which now seem like such big things) like make them the very best pancakes.

Mike was a loyal friend. He spent most of his life giving to others. After his passing, countless people came forward with stories of how he had helped others. There were accounts of him helping with broken down cars, clearing fallen limbs, covering extra shifts for firefighters when they were in need, and even showing up to do projects like sheetrocking a building for a friend. These are just a few of the many examples. Mike was also trained for emergency response with the Texas Baptist Men. In the case of a catastrophe, he was ready and willing to put his chainsaw skills to use at a moment's notice.

Mike loved singing bass in the church choir. He also sang with the Joint Heirs Quartet for 16 years. The Joint Heirs ministered in churches, prisons, nursing homes, operas, and conventions, spreading the Gospel through music. He would often work his fire department shift and leave straight from the station early in the morning only to drive hours to get to a group event. He was dedicated and loved what the group was accomplishing.

Mike had a life-long passion for cars. One of his favorite pastimes was restoring "old" cars from Volkswagens to hot rods. He enjoyed car shows with his friends and grandkids. Mike was a member of the Texas Most Wanted car club, where he was beloved and respected by his friends and was affectionately referred to as Mister Mike.

Mike was loved by so many family and friends. While he is missed tremendously, we rejoice that he is reunited with his loving parents and brother. We have Christ's assurance that through Him, we will all be together again.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster. A private interment at Italy Cemetery will be held.
