OBITUARY - July 3, 1999

Attorney Diane F. Beemer, South Abington Township, died Saturday at Community Medical Center after an illness. She was the wife of Attorney Barry Beemer.

Bom in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late federal Judge Lloyd Fletcher, and his wife, Lola Sleight Fletcher, she was a graduate of both the University of Colorado and the George Washington University Law School.

She served as an assistant attorney general with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection for four years. Since then she has engaged in private practice of law with an emphasis in representing victims of environmental pollution. She was a partner in the Clarks Green law firm of Beemer and Beemer, with her husband. She represented citizens of Throop in their claims against Gould Inc. for environmental contamination caused by a lead smelter, which resulted in one of the largest settlements in an environmental case in the history of federal court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

She was an active lecturer before community and professional groups on environmental issues. She was admitted to the bars of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District and the U.S. Supreme Court. She served on the Law Advisory Board of Marywood College and the Women's Health Care Planning Task Force of Moses Taylor Hospital.

Also surviving are two sons, David, Raleigh, N.C., and attorney Bruce, Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Fletcher.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 715 Linden St., with services at 11:30 in the Elm Park United Methodist Church by the Rev. Reese Waring, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Unit of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware Olyphant, 18447.
