Edward F. Sheehan 1925 - 2016 Edward F. Sheehan, 91, of Springfield, died at 4:12 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at his home. Edward was born May 1, 1925 in Ohio, IL, the son of Thomas F. and Catherine A. Hannon Sheehan. He married C. Suzanne Johnson on August 18, 1951 in Galesburg, IL; she preceded him in death on June 18, 2009.

Edward attended one room country grade schools in Bureau and Lee Counties, IL, and graduated from Ohio Community High School in 1943. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving in the South Pacific Theater during WWII aboard a PT-191. Edward was wounded in action and honorably discharged from the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, among other medals, for his service.

Edward attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA from 1946 to 1950, graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Commerce and Accounting. He was employed with Clifton, Gunderson LLC, as a CPA in the Danville office from 1965 to 1973. He worked in their Springfield office as a managing partner from 1973 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Illinois CPA Society and American Institute of CPA's. Edward was a 4th Degree Knight, his membership in Knight of Columbus Council 364 dating back to 1947. He was an active member of the Springfield Diocesan Catholic Charities Corporate Board and served as treasurer of the Catholic Charities of Springfield advisory board from 1990 – 2001. He was a member of Rotary Club of Springfield and its Foundation President from 1988 to 1989, Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Benefactor, and served many years as a member of the Board of Managers of the Springfield Muni Opera. He was an active member of the Salvation Army advisory board, and was a member of Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) from 1998 to 2008, serving as Chairman and Assistant District Manager. Edward was a member of Christ the King Parish, where he served as a past usher chairman and lector and was a Samaritan for St. John's Hospital.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Sheehan. He is survived by his children, Timothy P. (wife, Melody) and Paul R. Sheehan, both of Springfield, Daniel J. (wife, Karen) Sheehan of Rockford, Matthew E. Sheehan of Telluride, CO, and Therese A. Sheehan (husband, Michael Stromme) of St. Cloud, MN; three grandchildren, Aaron, Catherine, and Kodi; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Catholic Charities of Springfield, 1625 W. Washington St., Springfield, IL 62702.
