Alice Kwai Yuen Meyers (née Lau) peacefully passed away July 29, 2023 in hospice care in Kent, Washington. She was just several weeks shy of her 93rd birthday.
Alice grew up in Moana Loa Gardens in Honolulu, Hawai'i, where she was one of 13 children. They were a close-knit family. Her sisters nearest her age have remained her best friends throughout her life. She loved time with family and relished all holidays where she could host and attend the large family gatherings. Out of high school she met and married Leroy Tice. He was serving in the military so they moved quite a bit in her early adult years to various military bases, including bases in Alaska, California and Germany. It was during that time that she gave birth to her three sons, Richard, Christopher and Keith.
She eventually set up home in Newark, California, and started work for the Army as an Executive Secretary, at nearby Moffett Field. That was where she caught the eye of Raphael (Ray) Meyers. They later married, and she moved to join him in Palo Alto to set up home. She felt most at home in Palo Alto, where she would live for nearly 45 years. Alice loved organizing and she got to put that to use with her prolific crafting and Chinese brush painting – she had a marvelously organized oversized closet filled with her supplies. She also loved being helpful wherever she could. She shared her time volunteering at the library and the senior center. She and Ray had the joy of being able to travel widely – again putting to good use her skills of organizing with each trip. They had a map mounted on the wall of their family room that had pins marking all the places to which they had traveled. Alice had a marvelous green thumb and cared for a sizable, gorgeous, prized collection of orchids decorating all corners of their house and property.
She is survived by sisters, Hattie, Vangie, Mae, Ruby, brother Walter, and sister-in-law Betty. She also leaves her three sons, Rich, Chris, and Keith, their wives, and their many, many children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
She will be laid to rest at Alta Mesa Memorial Park beside her beloved husband, Raphael, in Palo Alto, California.
