1st Sergt. Thomas B. Guest, a carpenter from West Chester, served as private in the 9th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry for 3 mos., then enlisted at age 20 on Sept. 23, 1861, for 3 yrs.; in Company F, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was appointed 4th sergt on Oct. 3, 1861, promoted to to 2d sergt on Jan. 10, 1862 an to 1st sergt on March 10, 1863. Sergt Guest reenlisted as a veteran at Fernandina, Florida on March 15, 1864 , to date Feb. 29, 1864 and was killed after the action at Green Plains, Bermuda Hundred, Va., on May 20, 1864; struck by a rebel shell in camp of the regiment at Foster's Place, Va.

BROUGHT HOME - The body of Thomas Guest, who was killed in Virginia, in the battles of his country, was brought to the residence of his father, Tolbert[sic] Guest, in East Nantmeal, and was interred on the 21st ult. A fellow soldier whose term of service has expired, and who buried him, went after the body. His name is Samuel Wynn, Jr. [CW]
