Chico Enterprise-Record, Friday, July 21, 1961: "Joseph C. Lawson. Funeral services will be held in Apostolic Gospel Temple Saturday, for Joseph C. Lawson, 74, of Oroville, who died Wednesday. An autopsy was ordered by the coroner's office to determine the cause of death. Results of the autopsy have not been announced yet. Mr. Lawson died in an Oroville hospital. He had been a resident of Oroville for only a short time. Since 1939 he had lived in Campbell. He was born in Missouri on April 4, 1887.

Survivors include his widow, Lena Lawson of Oroville; sons, Arthur, James, Joe and Thomas, all of San Jose; daughters, Sylvia Frazier of Los Altos, Gladys High of Rio Oso, Ruby White of Rio Oso and Nora Lunbeck, of Rawlins, Wyo.; sisters Hetti Lane of Modesto and Amenda Snafford of Tulare; stepsons, Sam Dale Wilks, Robert Wilks and Raymond Wilks, all of Campbell; stepdaughters, Helen Scott and Alice Lawson of Campbell, Emma Herd and Lucille Cate of Oroville, 56 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Nathan McFarland of the Apostolic Temple will officiate at burial at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Christian Service Cemetery, preceded by services in the chapel of the Christian Service Society."
