Family historian Ruth S. Widener wrote, "I found no record of his birth or death, but he was known in Mercer and Summers Counties, West Virginia. My information is that he was a would-be inventor and was particularly interested in solving perpetual motion. He accumulated all kinds of machinery and gimmicks which he used in his experiments. He never married. He is buried in the Austin Cemetery on Brown's Ridge."
