Elizabeth Bowering Jack was the daughter of Mr. Jack, probably James Jack, and Elizabeth (Bowering) Jack. She was born either in Massachusetts or England. After James Jack died Mrs. Elizabeth Bowering Jack married James hope as his second wife on 04 Jan 1822 in St. Francisville, W. Feliciana Parish, La.. Mrs. Elizabeth Bowering Jack Hope died nine months later. James Hope was lost at sea returning from England after resolving the estate of his step-daughter, Elizabeth Bowering Jack.Elizabeth Jack was raised by Augusta (Hope) and Horaito Chriesman after James Hope died. She later married however. Austin Co., Texas marriage records show that a Elizabeth B. Jack married a William C. Hill 1 May 1835. Sarah Merritt who is related to Augusta Hope and Horaito Chriesman stated that Elizabeth Jack was called "Wee" Jack by the Hope family. -Greg

New Email from Ima: "The John P. Coles census made in the midsummer of 1825 Texas Census enumerated twelve members of the Hope household. Of these only James Hope, aged, 40-50, farmer and stock raiser, and "Aletha, su mujer," aged, 16-25, are named; the nine children (including Elizabeth B. Jack, Hope's stepdaughter) are designated only by sex and age group. Included in the enumeration is one slave, doubtless Rachel listed in the 1821 inventory of Mary Hope's estate and in the 1820 census of Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, as the Hopes' only slave, a female.
