Deputy Sheriff Jacob Salrin was killed in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Bluff Road and Windy Drive.

His patrol car collided with a tractor-trailer that was attempting to make a left turn onto Windy Drive.

Deputy Salrin had served with the Richland County Sheriff's Department for one year and graduated from the police academy in January 2023.

Born on September 4, 2000 to Aimee Jo Smith and Eric Richard Salrin in Springfield, Illinois. Jacob graduated from Washington Community High School in 2019.

He decided to pursue a career in law enforcement with the Richland County Sheriff's Department in March of 2022, earning his certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in January 2023.

Jacob's desire to help people led him to join this profession and follow his sister's footsteps. He loved being a deputy and working at the Richland County Sheriff's Department; making the ultimate sacrifice doing what he loved. Moyer Award at the criminal justice academy. Days before the accident he was selected as the Deputy of the Quarter for his region, which he will receive posthumously later this month.

He leaves behind his best friend and big sister Allie, who adored him and her husband Nick Zammuto; his mother Aimee Terhark and father Eric Salrin; as well all his law enforcement family, Region 1 deputies and all his fellow SCCJA class 275.Jacob was born on September 4, 2000 to Aimee Jo Smith and Eric Richard Salrin in Springfield, Illinois.
