Platoon Sergeant (US Army, retired) David Nelson Hollis was born on March 24, 1938 in Martin County, North Carolina, the only son of Robert Hollis (1915–1993) and his wife Daisy Estelle (Bullock) Hollis (1920–2002).

He was married to Helga -- ( -1995).

David was a US Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War, and after retiring as a Military Police after serving over 20 years of honorable service. he went on to work for the zinc plant before his final retirement.

Living in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee, he was a member of both Masonic Lodge #747 Palmyra and Oak Grove American Legion. He was 85 years old when he died on October 2, 2023.

David was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Helga and by siblings Betty Lou and Rachel Barnes. Survivors included a long-term female companion, two sons and a daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and three sisters.

Celebration of Life Services were held on October 5th at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, and burial with Full Military Honors was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville.
