A rose blooms and a rose dies. Kayla Beth Ahland, 25, of Phenix City, AL, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away April 12, 2007 at the Summit Hospital in Phenix City, AL.

Kayla was born May 12, 1981, in Memphis, MO, to Mike Ahland of Memphis, MO, and Robin Meeks Ahland of Albany, GA.

Kayla graduated from Scotland County R-I High School in the class of 2000. She worked at the Scotland County Care Center during her high school years from 1997-2000. She also worked at the Casey's General Store in Kirksville, MO, for a short time after graduation. Kayla enjoyed working at Northeast Missouri Regional Center from 2001-2004 until she entered the Armed Services. She did her basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC, and her duty station was in Fort Hood, TX. Kayla's position in the military was Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. She served in the military from December 2004 until March 2006. She was recently working the night shift at the Mead Paper Mill in Cottonton, AL.

Kayla loved spending time with her niece, Savana and her nephew, Skyler.

Her hobbies included her truck, fishing, watching movies and hanging out with her friends and family.

Kayla is survived by her mother, Robin Ahland of Albany, GA; her father, Mike Ahland and wife, Vicki of Memphis, MO; one sister, Allicia Parke and husband, James of Fort Mitchell, AL; her niece, Savana and her nephew, Skyler; grandparents, Marcia and Dave Irvin of Kirksville, MO, Ed Sayre of Downing, MO, Eva Ahland of Memphis, MO, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Her grandparents, Butch Ahland and Faye Huffman preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be held on April 22, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Downing Christian Church, Downing, MO. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Scotland County R-I Schools, or donation to donor's choice.
