Phillip was the son of John L. Ogden and Elizabeth Madden. He was born in Bridgeton,New Jersey. While yet a young child he came with his parents to Clay County Kansas. He engaged in farming until a few years ago when he retired from active work.

Phillip married Maggie Ann Gaston Nov.26,1890 in Idana, Kansas. They had seven children, William John Ogden, Maggie Ogden, Jessie Viola Ogden, Joseph A. Ogden, Frank G. Ogden, Letha Marie Ogden and Alberta Lavine Ogden.

Long time friends and family gathered for the final rites at the Idana Presbyterian Church. A womens quartet sang "Blessed Assurance","The Old Rugged Cross", and "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown."
