Born July 27, 1926 in Bolivar, WV she was the daughter of the late Edna O'Brien Manuel, and Walter Manuel.
Barb lived in Bolivar, WV and graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1944. She moved to Washington D.C and worked as a secretary to the owner of Brooks, Inc. She moved back to Bolivar in March of 1946 and married "Doug" Bowers. They had 4 children and were married for 74 years. She was employed by the Anne Arundel Co. Board of Education, retiring in 1986. She lived in Glen Burnie, MD and Winter Haven, FL until settling in Charles Town in 2007.
She was a life-time member of the Halltown Presbyterian Church.
Barb loved her Redskins football along with Oriole and Nationals baseball. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games and even Sudoku. She always had to watch her "Wheel of Fortune" before going to bed.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey and wife, Gail of Mt. Airy, MD and Mark of Martinsburg, WV, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, sister-in-law, Lee Bowers and brother-in-law, Lee Sipe of Charles Town.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband "Doug", one infant son, Terry Lee and daughter, Carolyn Jean Anderson.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 10th, 2023 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Rev. Henry Christie officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, WV.
