He was the son of Henry Lewis and Emma Virginia Whitley Lumpkin; brother of W. R., Julia K. and Emma Lou Lumpkin Montgomery.
John Beverly can be found in 1910, being three year old "Johnnie B." as he was already know, living with his parents, Henry and Emma Lumpkin, and older siblings, Emmie Lou 8 and W. R. 5, on a farm in the area of Howard in Taylor County, GA. They all had been born in Georgia
By 1920. Johnnie B.at 13 was old enough to help his father on the farm. At the time they were living on a farm road south east of Howard on what was called Howard Road. Johnnie was attending school, as was his older brother W.R and a younger sister, Julia Kate who was seven. His sister Emmie Lou was now married and no longer living with the family.
Sometime around 1928, Johnnie B. wed a local miss named Blanche Hart and the two rented and settled down on a farm of their own, which happened to be next door to that of his parents on Howard-Junction City Road. There they also began to raise a family of their own. Tragically, they birthed and lost two infant sons before the birth of Betty in 1931, the first of three daughters who were to grow to adulthood.
At some time, Johnnie B. became an ordained minister. (He was also an accomplished barber and gave me my first haircut).
His wife Blanche passed away in April 1977 and Johnnie B. in 2002. They lay side by side in eternal peace. here at Pine Level.
