Irene Burdine Swanner, 81, Britthaven Nursing Home, formerly of the Poplarville community, died Saturday, August 27, 1994, at Britthaven, following a long illness.


She was born in Poplarville on March 27, 1913, daughter of the late Andrew and Sallie Jones Farmer. She was a homemaker, and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.


Survivors include two sons, Kelsey "Kelly" Burdine and Vernon Lee Swanner, both of Somerset; two brothers, Ellis Farmer, Harlan and Nolan Farmer, Somerset; three sisters, Minnie Whitaker, Cincinnati, Thelma Stringer, Cawood, Kentucky, and Beatrice Moore, St. Petersburg, Florida; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Bill Swanner and Orville Ottis Burdine; two brothers, Clemon and Leonard Farmer; and a sister, Ruby Wells.


Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of New Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon Chaney officiating.


Burial will be in Poplarville Cemetery.


Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
