Bernie was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish, St. John the Baptist in Johnsburg. Bernie loved camping, gardening, golfing, bowling, and farming with his family. He also donated blood for many years to the American Red Cross. Bernie was a trustee at St. John the Baptist and was instrumental in building the pavilion in Johnsburg. He spent many happy retirement years in Florida and along with his wife Pat, visited every state in the United States and several other countries.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; daughter, Jeanette (Scott) Weiler, and their children, Jarett (Marika), Cale (Ashlyn) and Erin, all of Auburndale, WI; son, Bob (Jan) Simon and their children, Blake, Samantha (Andrew), Melissa, and Bryce (Anika), all of Malone; daughter, Mary (Guy) Trainor and their children, Mike (Kelly), Josh, and great-grandchild, Harrison, and Geena (Joe) all of Cross Plains, WI; daughter, Diane (Dennis) Rieder of Fond du Lac; and daughter Barb Simon and her children, Madee and Seth Reber, all of Madison. He is further survived by his siblings, Elaine Schrage, Alan (Judy) Simon, Carol (Curt) Muche, and Jean (Phil) Foote, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Earl and Jean McCormick, and a brother-in-law, Dick Schrage.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Church, N8794 County Rd. W, Malone, WI, 53049. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church, beginning at 11:30 AM with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery will follow the service.
