Andy Maness passed away on October 8, 2023, in Memphis at age 93.

Andy was born on February 12, 1930, in Chester County, Tennessee. He was the second son of Robert Lomax Maness and Cora Alline Wamble Maness. He grew up in Chester County with a brother, Ernest Lee and sisters, Frankie Sue, Willadean, and Joy.

Andy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris Barton Maness, their four children, Roger Maness (Kathy), Karen McPherson (Randy), Joey Maness (Diana), and Michele Phillips (Glenn); their grandchildren, Nichole Karnes, Brandy Smith (Jon), Summer Taylor (Ezra), Joseph Maness (Diane), Austin Maness (Polina), Taylor McPherson (Whitney), Hayes McPherson (Amy), Jonathan Van Eaton, Timmy Van Eaton, and Emily Van Eaton and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Willadean Thrasher and Joy Whittaker along with several nieces and nephews and countless friends and persons whose lives were enriched immeasurably by Andy and his wife, Doris, along the way.

Over the course of his adult life, Andy was an agent of peace and reconciliation in the world, treating everyone he encountered in the way that he would want to be treated. His home was open to countless children, friends, and others. Countless lives were made better by the hospitality and friendship extended by Andy and his wife, Doris. He never met a stranger.

Andy graduated from Chester County High School in 1948, after which he attended Draughon's Business School in Nashville. He married Doris Barton on May 29, 1954, and worked in life and health insurance for most of his adult life. In the early 1960's he became a gospel preacher after which he preached and taught in various congregations for the next fifty years. He was a member of the Plainview Church of Christ. His greatest contribution to Christ was the selfless life of service he lived.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, October 12th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. Ben Flatt officiating. Burial will follow at Henderson City Cemetery.
