He was born, March 18, 1951, in Sheboygan, a son of the late Robert and Evelyn Hoefler Koenig. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1971.


He had been employed Hayssen Mfg. for several years and then at Stemper Farms and Sohn Mfg in Elkhart Lake before being employed at Giddings and Lewis in Fond Du Lac, working there until ill health forced his early retirement.


On March 28, 1986 he married Tammy Marquardt. They lived in St. Cloud until moving to the Town of Rhine.


He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. Rich had also been a member of the Kiel Jaycees and had served as president.


His hobbies included hunting, fishing, wood working and enjoyed helping his wife with her crafts and well as spending time with his daughter.


Survivors include his wife Tammy, one daughter Stephanie at home; their exchange daughter Tanya Djiganshina of Turkmenistan, three brothers, Daniel of School Hill, Dennis (Jody) of Kiel and Keith (Helen) of Kiel, two sisters, Judy (Neil) Braatz of Collins and Pamela (Randy) Braatz of St. Nazianz and Mary Koenig of New Holstein; his brother and sister in-law, Barbara (Gohar) Malik in Plymouth, Kurt (Tiffany) Marquardt of Cascade and Lori Robbins of St. Nazianz and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth and his mother and father in-law Roland and Carol Marquardt.
