Obituary

Danetta Jean Harper, 76 of Galena, Kansas passed from this life on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Legacy Living, Baxter Springs, KS.

Danetta was born January 27, 1947 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to the late Dan P. Wheeler and Imogene (Bailey) Wheeler. Her family ultimately moved to Kansas and she attended school in Riverton. She received her LPN from Franklin Tech in 1980 and later returned to get an Associates Degree from Labette Community College in 1996.

Danetta was united in marriage to Freddie L. Harper on October 21, 1988 in Joplin, MO.

Danetta had a servant's heart and devoted the majority of her life and career to caring for others. She was most passionate about caring for seniors and spent a large part of her career as a nursing home administrator at various long term care facilities in the region, retiring from Chetopa Manor in 2016.

Danetta loved to sew, learn new technology with her computer, going to rummage sales to find unique gems like antique glassware, dancing the night away with her husband. She later found a passion for genealogy and got great joy from finding the branches of her family tree and meeting new cousins. She loved the outdoors, especially traveling to Tennessee to see where her family was from and taking pictures of the various sites. Her greatest joy in life was found in the visits with her family. In her later years, you could find her watching her favorite crime tv or talent show with her chihuahua, Jax.

Danetta is survived by a daughter, Shelly Jean Gipson of Baxter Springs, KS; a granddaughter that Danetta and Fred raised like a daughter, Danae Taylor (Shawn) of Riverton, KS; a son, Ray (Sherrie) Harper of Galena, KS; grandchildren; Emily Gipson of Joplin, MO; Zack (Hailey) Harper, Galena, KS; Taylor Harper, Galena, KS; Hollie (Jarrod) Riley, Joplin, MO.
