Eugene E. "Bert" Diemer, 81, of Ottawa died 7:57 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Rita's, Lima. He was born March 7, 1937 to the late Albert and Agnes (Fischer) Diemer, On June 7, 1958 he married Helen J. Meyer and she survives in Ottawa.

Also surviving are five children: Russ (Bec) Diemer of Glandorf, Mark (Ellen) Diemer of Pandora, Jean (Ron) Gerdeman of Ottawa, Doug Diemer of Waunakee, WI and Lisa (Luke) Sargent of Troy; eleven grandchildren: Kacee (Brad) Hillard of Tipp City, Andrea (Justin) Ricker of Mansfield, Courtnee (Michael) Valentin of Titusville, FL, Shelly (Corby) Schroeder of Troy, Cody Diemer of Harrod, Sydney Gerdeman of Tipp City, Amy (Matt) Larson of Valdosta, GA, Taylor Gerdeman of Adrian, MI, Klaire Diemer of Waunakee, WI, Mitchell Sargent and Graham Sargent both of Troy; two great-grandchildren: Oakley Schroeder and Braxton Larson; two sisters: Liz Murray and Barb Diemer both of Ottawa; a brother, Jack (Cathie) Diemer of Ottawa; and a sister-in-law, Alice Diemer, of Glandorf.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Roger Diemer and Don Diemer, and a sister, Janet Dulle.

Bert retired from Philips after 30 years. He then retired from The Meadows of Ottawa after 25 years. Bert was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa VFW Post 9142, Ottawa American Legion Post 63, Ottawa Eagles. He was a US Army veteran and then a member of the Ohio National Guard for 17 years. He was on the Ottawa Volunteer Fire Department for 58 years where he was a former chief for 13 years. Bert also served on the Board of Public Affairs for 28 years and the Ottawa-Glandorf High School Athletic Boosters. January 3-9, 2000 and December 23-29, 2007 was Bert Diemer Week in honor of his service to the Village of Ottawa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AmVets. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, and 2-8 p.m., Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. There will a VFW service at 7:00 p.m., an Ottawa Fire Department service at 7:15 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. all Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Ottawa Fire Association.
