ELLIS F. WILKINSON
Age 76 of Mt. Dora and Pahokee died Friday evening, December 19, 1997 at his Mt. Dora home following an extended illness. A native of Claxton, GA he was born on Nov. 8, 1921, son of the late James H. Wilkinson , Sr. and Mary Alice Rushing Wilkinson . He had been a resident of Pahokee since 1931 and was a 1942 graduate of Pahokee High School. A veteran of WW II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 3rd Marine Division and was in the invasion of Bougainville before being wounded on Gu am. He received the Purple Heart from Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, a ribbon denoting three campaigns with three combat stars, and the Asiatic Pacific ribbon. He actively grew sweet corn, sugar cane, and sod in the Pahokee and Zellwood areas, his favorite b eing "sweet corn". He was a co-founder of Wilkinson -Cooper Produce of Belle Glade. He was founder and past president of Red Devon Ranch in Pahokee. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the BPOE Lodge 1638 Pahokee, the NRA, and the Americ an Legion. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Ellis Wilkinson , his father, James H. Wilkinson Sr., his mother, Mary Alice Wilkinson , his brothers, Klaris Wilkinson and James H. Wilkinson Jr., his sisters, Elise Hanson and Gladys Boles.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Frey Wilkinson of Mt. Dora; his daughter, Anne Hatton and husband Travis of Pahokee; his grandchildren, Kristen and Cameron Hatton of Pahokee, Michelle Hollingsworth and her husband Charlie of Wellington, Brad Wilkinson of Pahokee; his daughter-in-law, Julia Wilkinson of Pahokee; his stepchildren, Richard Frey and wife Shirley of Clermont, Kevin Frey and wife DeAnn of Knoxville, TN, Donna Brett and husband Barry of Orlando, Carol Perry and husband John of Suwanee, GA, Chris Stroer and husband Pete of Powder Springs, GA, his step-grandchildren, Layne, Lindsey, Ryan, Will, Lauren, Morgan, Katherine, Kenneth, Stephen, Hanna, and Chad; his brothers, Harold Wilkinson and wife Beth of Pahokee, Ray Wilkinson and wife Joy of Clewiston, Charles Wilkinson of Belle Glade; his sister, Barbara Shirley and husband William B. of Pahokee.

The funeral service will be Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 11 am, in the First United Methodist Church, Pahokee. The Rev. Delbert King, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in PortMayaca Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening between 6 8 pm. Those making an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Hospice of Lake Sumter, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares FL 32778 or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
