In 1927 he gave to the town of Derry, a building to house the Taylor Library which had outgrown its space. He was president of the Derry National Bank, treasurer of the Derry Water Works, treasurer Derry Electric Light, Pinkerton Academy, Chester and Derry R.R. and Lafayette Mineral Spring Co. He was the State Examiner for automobile licences. He had the Lewis Shepard Company, one of the sixth largest companies in the country in that field. The company was located in Watertown, where they made various lift trucks.
