Rhoda (Millard) Alwood, daughter of Royal and Catharine Millard was born in Metamora, Ohio on December 25, 1852. She came with her parents to DeKalb County, Indiana when she was a small child. There she grew to young womanhood and was united in marriage to John W. Alwood on June 30th, 1872. To them were born ten children, six sons and four daughters, two sons having preceded their mother to the spirit world.

Sister Alwood was converted about sixteen years ago and joined the United Brethren Church at Zion class. Later her name was transferred to Butler class, where she was a good and acceptable member at the time of her death (which occurred at the late home on Walnut Street, Butler, Ind., August 14, 1909). She was age 55 years, 7 months and 19 days. She was a devoted Christian, a faithful companion and a loving mother.

She leaves to mourn her departure a commpanion, four sons- Charley, John G., William and Perry, all of Butler, four daughters- Mrs. Ada Heller of Hamilton, Ind., Mrs. Ida Showers of Auburn, Ind., Mrs. Elizabeth McConnell of Danville, Ill. and Miss Minnie of Butler, Ind. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, three sisters and a large circle of relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at the United Brethren Church in Butler, Tues. afternoon at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. O.B. Wells, assisted by Rev. W.F. Parker. Interment in the Butler Cemetery.
