Husband of (1)Lucy Bishop and (2)Bertha Lee Smith Parker

Andrew Willis Parker, the fifth child and second son of David Allen and Josephine Inez Willis Parker. He was born in the Davidson District of northwest Taylor County.

The following article appeared in The Columbus Enquirer –Sun, in May of 1938:

“PROMINENT GENEVA CITIZEN DIES"
“Mr. A. Willis Parker, 58, of Geneva died early Monday morning at City Hospital in Columbus, where he underwent an operation last week. He had been sick for the past two weeks.
“Funeral services conducted by his pastor, Elder S. H. McCorkle, assisted by Rev. W. J. Erwin, were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Messrs. J. M. Greer, F. E. Trussels, M. D. Moore, J. C. Watts, W. F. Monday and J. T. McCord.
“Surviving Mr. Parker are his wife, the former Miss Bertha Smith, three sons, W. H. Parker, of Columbus; Robert and Herschel, and one daughter, Miss Mildred Parker; also five brothers, Messer’s. G. A. Parker of Junction City, H.M. Parker and John Parker of Butler, 0.T. Parker, of Miami, Fla.; and Frank Parker, of Grantville, five sisters, Mrs. Nora Waters, of Butler; Mrs. J. T. Beeland and Mrs. J. T. Rutherford, of Butler and Mrs. C. L. Funderburke, of Talbotton.
“Mr. Parker was a faithful member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was loyal to his church (he was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church Talbot County), a good neighbor and a good man. He was born in Taylor Co., Ga., on September 18, 1879.
“In early manhood he married Miss Bishop, of Taylor Co., GA. who lived only a few years. Later he married Miss Bertha Smith of Geneva, who survives him. Since coming to Geneva Mr. Parker has been engaged in farming and in the mercantile business. For the past several years he had operated one of the school buses for the Geneva-Box Springs School.
“A host of friends through this section are grieved because of his death and deeply sympathize with his family in their loss. “



Andrew died, May 16, 1938 at the age of 58. His wife Bertha Smith Parker survived her husband by more than forty years and died on October 26, 1978 in Cedartown, GA. Both she and Andrew Willis are interred here in the Geneva Cemetery.
