H. Parry Desmond, 85, of Downingtown, passed away on October 15, 2023, at home with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Rebecca Casner Desmond for 52 years.
Born in Allentown on October 24, 1937, he was the son of the late Harold and Grace O'Donnell Desmond. Parry graduated with his Bachelor's Degree from Muhlenberg College, and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was proud to be an award winning journalist and civic historian. Prior to retirement, he worked as an Editor and Contributor for Chilton Trucking Magazine. Parry was always involved in the Downingtown Community, being one of the original founders of Good Neighbor Day, and he served as President of the Downingtown Historical Society. He started two local newspapers, East Branch Citizen and West Chester Citizen, which he ran out of his home. Parry was also creator, publisher and distributor of Histogram, a weekly Downingtown newsletter.
Surviving in addition to his wife Becky is brother-in-law Daniel Bayly, sister in law Catherine Lynn; nieces and nephews Annie Heckenberger, Andrew Heckenberger, Marnie Bayly, Jeff Bayly (Ginny), Diana Lynn, Carol Anne Hayes (Bill), Karen Leonard (Buckey), Sandy Shurina, Dan Casner, Drew Casner (Bonnie); and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Anne Heckenberger, Marie Bayly, brothers-in-law Robert Casner and David Casner and nephew Chris Casner.
