Dad of Debbie and Buddy Growing up, Grandpa Clemons wasn't afraid to grab me by the ear and set me straight. For something that seemed so annoying as a young kid, it sure does all make sense now. I got to spend a couple summers with him. During those summers I grew up physically and mentally with him guiding me into a young man. He worked me hard and taught me the important of doing things right. He also knew how to have fun. I remember the three wheelers, four wheelers, golf cart, tractor. I remember fishing off the pontoon boat and swimming in the pool even when it was barely warm enough.. I remember riding dirt roads. I remember eating a dinner of potted meat and cheez wiz, quite delicious when you're 12 years old! I remember when he bought me my first collectible coin, an 1899 indian head cent in great shape, I still have it. I remember riding to the hardware store. I remember spending endless hours in his body shop playing with the air hose. I remember riding in the truck with him to pickup some trailers to sell, listening to Conway Twitty and Tanya Tucker. I remember stopping to get Krystal burgers whenever we were nearby. I remember taking a trip to Indiana with him for fourth of July, we had Whitecastle burgers and they just weren't the same. I remember learning to grill from him, just put a splash of the beer you're drinking on everything no matter what it is - something I still do. I remember him traveling to see me in Georgia in one of his many motor homes over the years. I always looked up to him and appreciated the way he treated other people. That's a valuable lesson I won't forget. Whenever I need a reminding of doing what's right, I will imagine he is here, pulling on my ear again.
