Halvor Anders Halvorsen, age 88, died peacefully at Southern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. November 7, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, New York April 13, 1930, lived in Norway for 5 years, and returned to Brooklyn at age 10, on the last boat to leave Norway after the Nazi invasion in 1940. Halvor received a Certificate in Forestry from SUNY in Wanakena, New York, and an Associates Degree in Landscape Management from SUNY in Farmingdale, New York. He started a Nursery on farmland purchased on Harmon Road in Bennington 1960. Known as Olde Towne Nursery, he had a large clientele from Bennington and surrounding areas. Halvor enjoyed classical music, including Musssorgsky and Stravinsky. He also read extensively, and had a large collection of western literature. He became involved in the Worldwide Church of God and later, The Living Church of God. He contributed to services and had a large circle of friends in the church. In 1956 he married Dorothy Clark. They had 4 children 3 of whom survive him: Karen Marie Halvorsen of Bennington, VT, Ingrid Marie Halvorsen of Delmar, New York, and Brenda Marie Davis, of Lake Worth, Fl. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Dorothy Halvorsen, of West Palm Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his son CW4 Erik A Halvorsen, KIA 4-2-03 in Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
