Betty is survived by her children Mike Bookheimer (Hagerstown, MD), Sam Bookheimer (Baden, PA) and Kathy (Greg) Miller (Carlisle, PA) along with 3 grandchildren Coy Hile, Carrie Bookheimer and Charles Bookheimer. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Lauri Bookheimer, step-grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda) Miller, Kayla (Buddy) Baker and 4 greatgrandchildren – Levi, Chloe, Elliott and Gavin.
Betty came from a large family and is survived by the following siblings – Anna Gaye Lauer, Mary Lou Bookheimer, Frank (Bud) Metcalf, Fay Musselman and Boyd Metcalf along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Betty was predeceased by her son, David Bookheimer and siblings: Ruth Landis, William Metcalf, Jacquelyn Doyle, Rankin (Junior) Metcalf, Thomas Metcalf, Lila Lee Amsley and Leon Metcalf.
Betty was an accomplished seamstress, licensed beautician and retired as a head cook at CASD, Fayetteville Elementary School after 20+ years in their food services department including time at Guilford Hills Elementary School.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle for their loving care over the past 3 ½ years. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that donations be made in memory of Betty to the Benevolence Fund of Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, #270, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
A memorial service for both Betty and her son, David will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Pastor Steve Motter of Chapel Pointe will be officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Parklawns Memorial Garden.
