Gary O. Hunter MT. PLEASANT - It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Gary O. Hunter on this twenty-fourth day of May, 2010. While our hearts are deeply saddened by the thought of being without him we are comforted knowing that he is now at peace and with God. Gary was recently diagnosed with cancer which was ultimately the cause of his death. He was born in Huntsville, Alabama on the twenty-ninth of August in the year of 1951. He lived there with his father and mother, Owen Hunter and Lillian Hunter Hargrove as well as his brother, Ronald Hunter and two sisters; Brenda Smith and Karen Conn. His father and brother passed before him. He loved each and every one of them and felt blessed to be part of such a wonderful family. Gary met his loving wife Debra Hunter in Nuclear Medicine school and moved to Charleston after they were married where they have lived for thirty nine years. Since being married they have grown closer with each passing year and cherished their time together. Their marriage was an inspiration to many. He had one son, Eric Hunter and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hunter. Gary was a wonderful father and a great role model for his son. He also dearly loved his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as his nieces and nephews. Gary had many dear friends and touched many lived as was evident by the outpouring of support during his time of illness. He loved writing and playing music for God and others. He also enjoyed being outdoors enjoying the beauty of God's creation. He worked most of his professional career at the VA Hospital in Charleston and volunteered for many local organizations. He will be certainly missed by all that knew and loved him. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 2 PM, Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Sullivan's Island. We thank God for putting Gary in our lives and look forward to reuniting with him in heaven. He will always be in our hearts and minds until that time comes.
