Leland Emerson Ashburn Jr., 82, of Waldorf, MD, died on October 14, 2023 at the Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick.
Born on January 29, 1941 in Callao, Virginia, he was the son of the late Leland Emerson Ashburn Sr. and Henrietta Elizabeth Ashburn. Leland served for many years with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Leland was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf.
In addition to his parents, Leland was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rose Anne Ashburn; daughter, Teresa Ashburn; sisters Helen Marie Keyser and Catherine Virginia Zuniga.
Leland is survived by his sons James, John, Michael, Joe (Carmen), and Mark (Kimberly) Ashburn; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Ann Covey.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM with Prayers at 7 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 Saint Peters Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
