Actor - His father, a solicitor, died when he was five years old. Barlow was raised by his mother. After graduating from school at the age of 18, he entered the British Army, and spent 15 years in the military. Barlow left the army in 1969 to pursue a career in acting, receiving advice from Trevor Nunn and Sir Laurence Olivier. His first credited role, was as George Wilde (Publican) in the WW2 spy thriller, "The Eagle Has Landed" (1976). His late start in industry did not stop him from launching an impressive career, amassing a 87 film credits in such notable films as Les Miserables (1998), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Hot Fuzz (2007), 10,000 B.C. (2008), and Automata (2014). Surprisingly, Barlow lost his hearing in the 1950s when testing a high velocity Rifle for the British Army, until 2008, when surgery to fit a cochlear implant allowed him to recover some of his hearing.
