1925 - 2023
Volunteer 2011 - 2023
"Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our heart, and we are NEVER the same."
In this way, WE are lucky because even as we mourn we must SMILE!
Yesterday, we celebrated an amazing life, well lived and loved. A man who made his dash between beginning and ending count!!!
Mr. Floyd was always full of life, joy; a huge heart for people, for his beliefs, for family and for his country. WWII Veteran, Retired from the Navy Shipyard, always serving others. In 2011 he began volunteering in the Habitat ReStore. Loved doing what he called "the dirtiest job in the place" taking care of tools, pricing them, fixing things and so much more. He built bird houses for years to raise money for Habitat. He built the special donation house that still sits in the ReStore today! He would light up when he talked about being there with all of us, about things he had worked on,things he had bought and donated back…memories of many years of dedicated service. He would tell everyone he could that "being in this place SAVED his life". He had lost his wife, lost his son and just needed a place to be needed, to work hard, to share stories and to give his daughter some peace that he wasn't tinkering at home alone. We hope he knew just how much he actually saved each of us!
We can all only hope to experience a piece of life and love the way Mr. Floyd did! His passion and all that he has given were not wasted on our Berkeley Habitat Family - Your legend, Your Faith, Your Servant Heart, Your Love has changed us forever.
Love and Prayers to everyone that knew him. Remember all of the blessings he shared and SMILE! Specifically, share with a friend over some Biscuits & Gravy with an extra side of gravy. My Friend the man who loved Gilboa so much has passed to Heaven. He was one of the Greatest Generation. He loved the Lord, his country, his family and his beloved Gilboa. I will never forget you.
