She was born at her parents' home on Beirne Avenue in Huntsville's historic Lincoln Mill Village, located in the northeast area of the city.
James was a WWI vet; he, Alma, his father, his second wife, Alice "Allie" (Hambrick) Cash, and his fourth wife, Ruby Jean (Gilliam Cash), are all buried in Blanche Cemetery in Lincoln Co., TN. (James' first wife is buried in White Cemetery in Putnam Co., TN; his mother is in Huntsville's Maple Hill Cemetery.)
On 2 June 1956, Barbara married Harold Thomas Student, Sr. - son of Herman A. Student and Rosalie D. Maloney of Saint Louis, MO - at the Church of the Visitation in Huntsville, the town they would make their home.
She eventually became a Registered Nurse, in time retiring from Huntsville Hospital.
Mrs. Student was preceded in death by her parents, as well as two grandsons, Eric August Student II and John Thomas Student.
