Funeral services for Ed Lampe will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003 at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Will Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Ed Lampe lost his yearlong battle with cancer Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003. He was born June 30, 1924 in Vernon, Texas. He was a commercial building contractor in Lubbock for 40 years. He built many schools, banks, churches, etc. in and around Lubbock. He was a member of the South Plains Lions Club and he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946. His family and friends came first in his life. One of his loves in life was watching Lady Raider basketball.

He had been a fan since the days of only 200 people in attendance. Another love and pride of his life was sponsoring girls and womens softball teams. It all started when his daughter, Diana, was old enough to play. She played for many years for Lampe Green and Lampe Blue teams which were known far and wide for their winning ways. Then in later years his granddaughter, Chelsea Phillips Bounds, played for these teams. He also enjoyed watching his grandson, Chase Phillips, play baseball from T-ball through his sophomore year at Monterey High School. He was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in Austin in honor of his years of sponsorship for girls and womens softball teams He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melinda Marie Lampe, his father, Arnold Lampe, his mother, Myrtle Lampe and three brothers. Survivors include: a daughter, Diana Phillips of Lubbock; granddaughter, Chelsea Bounds and her husband, Cody Bounds; a great-grandson, Gavin Bounds, all of Idalou; a grandson, Chase Phillips of Lubbock; Wanda Lampe of Lubbock; two sisters, Anna Boone of Devine, Texas and Mary England of Fayetteville, Ark.; two brothers, Andrew Lampe of Fayetteville, Ark. and Joe Lampe of Ft. Smith, Ark. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family will be present to receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers make donations to Hospice of Lubbock.
