Lemuel S. Helms, age 86, passed away in Pensacola, FL on April 15, 2008. Lemuel was born in Rutledge, Alabama on January 26, 1922 to Lemuel H. and Mary Helms. He joined the Navy in 1940, a veteran of WWII and was stationed in many different places throughout his career before retiring with 22 years as an AMSC, Chief in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at NAS Pensacola until 1977. Lemuel was a lifelong member of both the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of Elks Lodge #2108, the Fleet Reserve, a charter member of the Hadji Temple and Naval Lodge No.24.

Lemuel was preceded in death by his parents, his two sons, Joe Lemuel and Thomas Edwin Helms. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, his daughter, a special daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, and ten great grand children, one niece and two nephews, and a heap of friends who will miss him. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Friday, April 18, 2008 in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Barancas National Cemetery on Monday, April 21 at 1:15pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Covenant Hospice of FL (850)-202-0840, or the Alzheimer's Family Services, 1901 N. Palafox St, Pensacola, FL 32501 (850)-478-7790 or to the charity of your choice. Oaklawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
