He graduated from Heelan High School in 1956 and attended Regis College in Denver, Creighton University, and the University of Nebraska. Jerry married Carol Ann Johnson on November 21, 1961, and to this union six children were born. Jerry was Postmaster in South Sioux City during the Kennedy administration and then worked at the post offices of Boys Town and Sioux City before opening the Beacom Insurance Agency in South Sioux City, which he owned and operated for 40 years. Jerry was always on the go and always had a side hustle. He had several rental properties that he enjoyed tinkering on even in his old age. He also built houses with Mike Gill and Dick Sokolovske for many years. He was proud of the hard work that he did to provide for his large family and help pay for his children's education. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and watching Notre Dame football. Bishop Heelan held a very special place in his heart. He was a huge supporter of Catholic education and Heelan athletics. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Siouxland Notre Dame Club. He was lovingly called "The Jer" by all who knew him. Jerry is survived by his children, Jeanne (Kent) Hennings of Cedar Falls, IA, Jackie Reller of South Sioux City, NE, Dr. John (Jesse) Beacom of Chicago, IL, Carrie (Jim) Cunningham of Sioux City, IA, Dr. Betsy (Rob) LeRoux of West Des Moines, IA, and Katie (Jon) LaFleur of Dakota Dunes, SD; brother, Paul Q.
