LuVerna A. Schreck, age 94, of Durant, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at Ridgecrest Retirement Village in Davenport.

Visitation will be 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, November 9, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in her memory.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Durant. Burial will be in the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.

LuVerna Adelia Schlapkohl was born January 18, 1929, in Davenport, the daughter of Otto and Adelia (Hering) Schlapkohl. She graduated from Durant High School in 1947. She earned her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She began her teaching career at Prospect Hill Country School, a one-room schoolhouse on the family Century Farm in rural Durant. She married Marlan Vernon Schreck on June 18, 1950, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport. Marlan preceded her in death on December 6, 2006. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Durant, and taught Sunday school, a member of the Durant American Legion Auxiliary and was a Durant Lioness. She participated in several mission trips to Africa and always looked forward to the annual Durant Polka Fest. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading and gardening. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane Schreck of Jacksonville, FL, and Carrie (Greg) Paustian of Dixon; two sons, Lonnie Schreck of Edmond, OK, and Dr. Micheal (Susan) Schreck of Long Grove; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Kurt Schreck, two sisters, Mildred Schlapkohl and Dorothy Paulsen and two brothers, Lester and Willis Schlapkohl.
