Roger Dale Byrd, age 54 died April 30, 2005, at his home, 3956 NC 903 South Highway, Rose Hill.
Mr. Byrd was the son of Benjamin Vance and Irene Robinson Byrd.
On May 4 at 2:00 p.m., the Reverend Nancy J. Gladden conducted a memorial service at Oak Plain Presbyterian Church. Military honors were accorded by the US Casualty Unit of Fort Bragg.
A Vietnam veteran, Roger worked the oil fields of Saudi Arabia and on the oil derricks of the Gulf of Mexico.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Gulbranson Byrd; one daughter, Caroline Taylor Byrd; three step-daughters, Amber Rose Pierce, Jessi Nicole Gulbranson, and Rachel Dawn Brininger; one stepson, Hank Allen Brininger; brother, Paul Howard Byrd; step-granddaughter, McCartney Farley; step-grandson, Samuel Pierce.
Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mattie Lee Smith Byrd, and two brothers, George Franklin and Benjamin Robinson Byrd.
Following the service, the family received family and friends in the church fellowship hall of the church.
