James "Jim" Edward Grimes - Funeral Home Obituary
James "Jim" Edward Grimes born June 13, 1928, in Elmhurst, IL passed away October 13, 2022, in Kennewick, WA. He is survived by his wife Sook Grimes, son Thomas Grimes, son Donald Grimes, son Roger Grimes, stepdaughter Lina Older, stepdaughter Susan Larson, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Jim grew up in the Chicago, Illinois area and upon graduating high school joined the United States Marine Corp serving between 1946-1948 and 1950-1952. Jim worked as an Engineer in the mines at Uranium City, Saskatchewan between 1952-1962 then returned to Illinois to complete his Bachelor's in Mining Engineering at the University of Illinois and became licensed as a Professional Engineer.
Jim and his then wife, Dorothy, resided in 6 different cities between 1962-1984 and they ultimately settled down for the long run in Richland, WA in 1984 where he worked work for Westinghouse on the Hanford Reservation until his retirement. Jim was pre-deceased by his wife Nadia Dorothy Grimes in May of 1995. He re-married to Sook in May of 1997. Jim served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 85, District 13 between 1993-2013 and loved to go sailing whenever he could. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren by playing Rummy and telling stories of his past. Jim was a proud and stoic man who was respected and loved. He will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 ~ 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremation, 9353 W. Clearwater Ave. Kennewick, WA, followed by a Graveside Service 4:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland, WA.
