Rev. Charles Richard "Dick" Hill, 77, passed away peacefully at home in Tomball, Texas, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2024. Dick was born on February 12, 1946, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and adopted as a newborn by his loving parents, Rev. Charles Wallace and Geneva Dewberry "Judy" Hill. He often would tell people that he was special because his parents picked him out. He was raised in Oklahoma and Arkansas as his father served as a minister in various Baptist churches in those states. Dick graduated from Wynne (AR) High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis).

Dick gave his life to Christ at the age of six and surrendered to the ministry while in college; was licensed to the ministry in 1964 at Fair Oaks Baptist Church in Fair Oaks, Arkansas; ordained to the ministry in 1969 at Wells Station Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee; and spent two summers on mission in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He also recorded several Christian records and began serving as a youth and music minister in a number of churches across the South.

One of the churches he served in was First Baptist Church, Hughes, Arkansas, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" McCoy Hill, who at the time was attending Ole Miss where she was the head majorette and featured twirler. They were married on December 18, 1971, and celebrated 37 years of marriage before her passing in 2008.

Dick and Dot served faithfully together in Baptist churches in Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, and North Carolina. Dick became well known as a Minister of Music due to his humble spirit and ability to lead God's people into dynamic praise and his creative ability to minister to more people through the worship ministry and was one of the first to present theatrical Christmas productions as a means to reach the lost for Christ, and Dot choreographed each of those productions. The final church in which he served as Minister of Music was Champion Forest Baptist Church, one of the largest Southern Baptist churches in America, where he served side-by-side with Dr. Damon Shook. Together Dick and Damon were not just a great team as a Minister of Music and Pastor, but also developed a close friendship that endured long after their retirements from Champion Forest. Most recently, Dick served as a Pastoral Care Pastor at Community of Faith in Hockley, Texas.

Dick's greatest joys were his daughters, Ashley and Alison "Alie". Dick adored them and their families, and enjoyed spending time with all of them, be it watching them sing, play sports, dance, cheer, or just watching television or a movie with them.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sister, Jone Franco. Dick's legacy is carried on by his daughters, Ashley (Clint) Smith, of Tomball, Texas; and Alie (Matthew) Shepherd of El Dorado, Arkansas; grandchildren Chandler (Caroline) Smith of Rogers, Arkansas; Shelby (Anthony) Johnson of Greenbrier, Arkansas; Anna Grace Smith and Jaden Smith of Tomball, Texas; and Eli Shepherd, Mary Katherine "Mary Kate" Shepherd, and Elizabeth "Libby" Shepherd all of El Dorado, Arkansas; sister-in-law B.J. (Rick) Saunders of Hot Springs, Arkansas: and a niece and three nephews; a multitude of friends and former colleagues and music ministry associates across the United States.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Klein Funeral Home-Champions. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Champion Forest Baptist Church-Champions with Rev. Clint Smith officiating.

Memorials may be made to Ouachita Baptist University, in memory of Dick Hill for students preparing for worship ministry, 410 Ouachita St., Arkadelphia, AR 71998 and on-line at obu.edu/give (indicate in the instructions in memory of Dick Hill) or the charity of the donor's choice.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
