Winthrop was a son of Joseph Adams & Betsey Morton.
He enlisted as a Private on 13 December 1861 at the age of 22 in Company K, 13th Regiment, Maine Volunteer Infantry.
He died of disease on 16 Nov 1862 at New Orleans, Louisiana.
He and his brother, George Lewis Adams, have a cenotaph in Bingham, Maine near their parent's gravestones.
