Helen L Adams, 76, died of Parkinson's disease at the Altoona Manor where she resided. Her services were held in West Des Moines, IA, at McLaren's Funeral Chapel. She is now buried at Resthaven Cemetary. My grandmother was born in Carey, Ohio, and had lived in West Des Moines for 33 years before settling in Altoona. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the West Des Moines Women's Club and Order of Eastern Star.

She was a kind hearted woman who always had Andes Mints and "Chicken in a Bisket" crackers. Two of my clearest memories of being with my grandmother is sitting in her kitchen with the wallpaper that had vines of strawberries and her fascination with cardinals. If there was a cardinal perched outside she'd smile and comment on how beautiful the red birds were. To this day when I see one I think of her.

"God hath not promised skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through; God hath not promised sun without rain, join without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God hath promised strength for the day, rest for the labor. Light for the way, grace for the trials. Help from above, unfailing sympathy; undying love.
"
