Bert was a LA County firefighter who dies in a fall, fighting a fire at the Western Candy Box factory in Los Angeles.
His memorial added based on Los Angeles Times 1938 death notice saying services at "Pierce Brothers" .

Bert Filmore Hancock was the son of John Lewis Hancock and Mary Isabelle Neal. He appears as an infant on the 1900 Slickford, Wayne County KY census, living with his parents, 5 siblings, and an uncle. By 1910 the family is in Cooke County, TX, with 10 children.

Bert marries Barbara Beulah White on 15 Sep 1918. He is 19 and she is 14. Their first child, a daughter is born and dies on 2 Jan 1920, and is buried in Spring Creek cemetery, same as Barbara's father Rev Charles Cornelina White. The couple is living with Barbara's brother Eric White on the 1910 Cooke County TX census, but move to California in 1923. where their only son, Jack White Hancock, is born. The family of three is on the 1930 Gardena, Los Angeles County CA census.

Bert dies tragically in a fall from a ladder while helping fight a factory fire. It was actually his day off, but he was at the fire station when the alarm sounded so went along to help. He left a widow and young son. The son later becomes a firefighter at the same LA County department and dies at age 48 while on duty, of a heart attack.
