During the night 3/4 August 1943, "C" Company, Loyal Edmonton Regiment, was attacking a high feature north of Regalbuto. The company was temporarily held up by heavy artillery, mortar and machine gun fire and wireless communications with Battalion Headquarters failed. It was essential to get a message to the Commanding Officer, who was away from his Headquarters making a reconnaissance. Private Davies was detailed to contact the Commanding Officer.
In carrying out his orders, this soldier crossed and recrossed an area under heavy, continuous enemy fire in his journey of over 3 miles. With great skill, determination and skilful use of ground, he delivered the message from his Company Commander and thus re-established communications.
His skill and bravery under very heavy fire was an inspiration to his company.
