TRUMAN JEFFERSON
July 17, 1946 ~ November 24, 2023

Truman Jefferson, age 77, of Idabel, Oklahoma, died, Friday, November 24, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Wednesday, July 17, 1946, to Preston and Annie Jefferson in Bethel, Oklahoma.

Truman joined the United States Army as a PFC on August 8, 1968, and was honorably discharged on September 8, 1970. He began his career as a worship leader at Kulli Chito Presbyterian Church in Bethel, Oklahoma under Eugene Wilson.

Then Truman began his law enforcement career with the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office as a deputy, then he went to work at Coalgate Police Department in Coalgate, Oklahoma and also worked as a security guard at the prison in Stringtown, Oklahoma. From there he went to the Durant Police Department.

He moved back home to Idabel to continue his career with the Idabel police Department as an officer. He retired from Law Enforcement to become a full-time gospel singer with the group called The Glory Road Singers. He was also known as the sound of masters, setting up his sound system all over Oklahoma. He traveled to Florida, California and many other states singing for the Lord. He was also known as the Master of Ceremonies.

After he retired from singing, he enjoyed watching the Cowboys and his stories, The Young and the Restless and every morning, the Three Stooges. He loved spending time with his family and friends and never met a stranger.

Truman was always joking, he was always telling the great-grandkids to drink your pop up, it's "High Dollar." Truman was loved by many and will be dearly missed, He was a jokester! He could make you laugh sometimes with a serious look on his face. He was the myth and the legend.

Truman is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Vicky Beard; three brothers, Huey Jefferson, Easis Jefferson and Elliston Jefferson and three Sisters, Serena Ward, Lucy Myers and Misann Bond.

Truman is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bertha Jefferson of Idabel, Oklahoma; one son, Robert Jefferson of Idabel, Oklahoma; three daughters and sons-in-law, Priscilla Wallace and Bob of Idabel, April and Darrell Burris of Idabel, Oklahoma and Angela and Levi James of Sobol, Oklahoma;

One brother, Randell and Rebecca Jefferson of Idabel, Oklahoma; two grandsons he raised as his own, Brock Jefferson and wife, Sharonica of Idabel, Oklahoma and Victor Jefferson of Ardmore, Oklahoma; special cousin, LilBit Dixon of Dierks, Arkansas; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; his grand dog, Sadie Mae; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 1, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Luke Battiest, Brother Greendale Davis, and Brother Wayne Horn officiating.

Interment will follow with Military Honors in the Kulli Chito Presbyterian Cemetery at Bethel, Oklahoma. A wake service will be Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be James Wallace, Tyrone Wallace, Darnell Colbert, James McAlester Jr , Brock Jefferson, Victor Jefferson, Jayden Jefferson and Elijah Jefferson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrell Burris, Robert Jefferson, Robert Cheatam, Deon Proby, Jordan Jefferson and Victor "Bubba" Jefferson Jr. , Bobby Coley.
