REILLY, Robert Kevin Age 88, passed away peacefully, on November 20, 2023, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late John J. and Evelyn F. (Jones) Reilly.

Bob was born in Cambridge, MA on August 27, 1935. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring as Commander. In 1957, he was Ensign, USNR and then reported on the USS Fortify, where he served as First Lieutenant and Mine Sweeping Officer. Upon being detached from Fortify, in September of 1959, returned to the Merchant Marine filling various billets at sea and ashore. In August of 1962, Bob accepted a commission in the regular Navy and assumed duties as First Lieutenant on board USS Neosho, on station of the Cuban blockade crisis. Next, he served as Operations Officer on board USS Cony.

His next tour of duty was in the Republic of Vietnam as an advisor with the Vietnamese River Assault Groups and Coastal Forces and in January of 1968 Bob assumed the duties of Executive Officer on board of the USS Glennon. His last tour was Weapons Officer of the USS Oklahoma City during shore bombardment the ship was hit, which was quickly suppressed.

After retirement from the U.S. Navy, he went to work for the Distinguished Admiralty Law Firm in Boston, where he was lead investigator of the Andrea Gail of Gloucester, then went to become the Emory S. Land Chair Professor at the Newport Naval War College.

Bob received Bronze Star w/combat V, 2 Air Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Medal, 3 Armed Forced Expeditionary, 5 Vietnam Service Medals, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross w/Gold Star, Vietnamese Meritorious Unit Ribbon, Vietnamese Civil Action Ribbon and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Graduate of Sharon High School, continuing his education at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Fordham University, Naval Schools Mine Warfare, Defense Language Institute, The U.S. Naval Destroyer School and Officers Graduate School.

Beloved brother of Joanne Healy of Sharon. Devoted uncle of Stephanie Crosman, Robert Healy and Tara Healy and partner, Bill Magraw. Great-uncle to Melanie and Kevin Lebel, Kelsey and Tyler Stone, Conner and Ashley Crosman, Erin and Cesare Del Vaglio, Cameron Crosman, Alden Pace and Samantha Healy. Great-great-uncle to eight nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held December 1 at 10 AM, at Our Lady of Sorrow Church, 59 Cottage Street, Sharon. Burial will be at the Rock Ridge Cemetery.
