Jerome N. Woodward, born March 10, 1921, in Omaha, Nebraska and passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010. His good humor and happiness will be missed.

You may have known him as Jerry, Woody or Bud. He worked for Continental Telephone in Victorville for many years before retiring as a supervisor. He was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge in Hesperia, tirelessly working and serving in many positions, including District Deputy Exalted Grand Ruler of Southern California. He particularly enjoyed awarding Elk's scholarships to deserving students.

His joy was motorcycling. He was a member of the "Desert Phantom Motorcycle Club," and spent decades riding throughout California and the United States with his wife Maren seated behind him. His grandfather, Louis Flescher, built one of the first motorcycles in 1913, the Flescher Flyer, and Bud shared that love of two-wheeling.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon, and joined the navy when WWII began. He served on the destroyer USS Selfridge. He was awarded the Purple Heart for an injury suffered when his ship was hit by two Japanese torpedoes.

Jerome was preceded in death by his wife Maren; father, Peter Nelson; mother, Ruth Woodward, and his adoptive father, Richard Woodward.

Jerome is survived by son, Cory and wife Paula, grandchildren Paige and Ben, and daughter, Dian; sister, Jacqueline Woodward; nephew, Richard, his wife Janelle, sons Ryan and Brad; niece Becky Gossett and her son, Kevin Wahl and nephew, Michael Gossett and wife Rhonda and their sons Tracy, Troy and wife Meredith, and their children Brittany, Brandon, Triniti and Tristin.

The ashes of Jerome and Maren will be scattered in Oregon [sic].
