Anthony "Tony" Pelligrino Cantele

JANUARY 14, 1930 – NOVEMBER 1, 2023

Anthony "Tony" Pelligrino Cantele, age 93, of Bonita Springs, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, with family by his side.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/fort-myers-cremati for the Cantele family.

Tony was born January 14,1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Italian immigrants, Pietro and Elisabeta Cantele. He was the youngest of 5 children and the first to be born in the United States.

Tony was raised in the historic Pullman neighborhood, excelling in sports like baseball, football and speed skating. He married the former Shirley Ann Barnard on February 4,1951 at St. Anthony's church. Shortly thereafter, Tony joined the United States Marine Corps. During the Korean War, he served stateside as a firearm instructor. Tony was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1953.

Tony held various manufacturing jobs as his family grew to include 3 daughters. He went to night school and took courses which enabled him to enter the sales world. He accepted a position at TRW, cutting tools division, in the 1970's. Tony retired in 1995, his long hours travelling on the road now behind him.

Tony's true passions in life after faith, family and friends were numerous. He loved all sports (especially golf and bocce), good food, music and travel. Tony enjoyed sharing his love of golf with his grandsons as well as coaching young junior students. He also spent time as a volunteer English tutor for Hispanic children in Bonita Springs.

Tony enjoyed many trips back to the family's village in Lusiana, Province Vicenza, Italy. Most recently, he traveled to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight with fellow veterans. He shared that it was a particularly moving experience for him.

Tony never knew a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He always saw the good in people and never gave advice unless asked. Tony never shied away from affection, and we are truly blessed knowing how much he loved us all.

Tony is pre-deceased by his wife of 21 years, Claudia; his parents, his siblings and their spouses; Regina (Charles) Sola, Teresa (Richard) Giordanelli, Angelo (Frances) Cantele and Luigina (Joseph) Fattori.

Private interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
