James Cordley was born in Weston near Spalding, Lincolnshire. he was the second son of Richard and Catherine Cordley (Coardley) of Weston. He married Ann Minta, daughter of Thomas and Ann (nee Cragg) Minta, 29 Feb. 1820, from the Belton Parish records. Ann died 15 Oct. 1886 and is buried at the farm of Charles A. Cordley,near Hamburg, Michigan.
