Mary Alice (Capps) Dobberstine, 79, a lifelong Liberty resident, passed away December 10, 2023, at Laurel at Norterre in Liberty, where she lived the past year and a half.

Mary Alice was born May 10, 1944, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Joe Hall Capps and Roberta Lou (Casteel) Capps. In 1965, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from William Jewell College, and in 1970, received her Master's degree in Reading Education from U.M.K.C.

Mary Alice's work life began as a third-grade teacher at Linden West School in the NKC School District. From 1972 to 1976, she operated the Liberty License Bureau, and in 1978, began her 38-year career in Real Estate Sales and Management. In 1986, Mary Alice established ERA Threshold, which she operated until 2008. She then continued in sales until retiring from Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate in 2016.

Mary Alice was very active in the Liberty community and beyond. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, served as President of Soroptimist International in Liberty, was past chair of the Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce and the Liberty Economic Development Corporation. In 1980, she served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention and was past Treasurer of the Clay County Republican Central Committee. She was past chair of the Northland Board of Realtors and was awarded the 2010 Community Service Award from the Kansas City Association of Realtors. She also volunteered 16 years for the Northland Early Education Center.

Mary Alice was united in marriage to E. L. "Dobbe" Dobberstine on January 6, 1980. Along with her husband, she leaves three children, Jim Clevenger, Jill Bartlett (Thad) and Brent Dobberstine (Jennifer); four grandchildren, Austin Clevenger, Madison Myers (Kyle), Chase Bartlett, and Parker Bartlett; siblings, George Capps (Martha), Tom Capps (Marcia), and Martha Capps (Dick Ward); sister-in-law, Jodi Capps; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Along with her parents, Mary Alice was preceded in death by a son, Joe Clevenger; infant brother, Joe Curtis Capps; brother, Lee Capps (and Lee's wife Nancy), and Bob Capps.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, followed by a service celebrating Mary Alice's life at 11:00 am, on Thursday, December 14, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Private burial will follow at Mount Memorial Cemetery.
